Read Psalm 2
Pray: Almighty God, help me to love those in charge, especially when I think they don’t deserve it.
Hear:
In the New Testament, there is a call for us as Christians to pray for the people in charge.
The person who wrote that call was literally in prison at the time.
Sometimes I get really mad at the people in charge of all sorts of things-- my town, my state, my denomination, my nation, etc. I am always reminded of the weight of the chains on the hand of Paul as he wrote the words “pray for the people who put me in prison.”
Civil discourse and disagreement is vital to the life of a Christian and it is completely countercultural. Lean in to the power of praying for someone that you think is a moron.
Respond:
Who is getting prayed for today?
Meditation:
The weight of chains.
