Read 2 Peter 1:16-21
Pray: Almighty God, remind me that everything I see is not everything that is. Amen.

There is a tradition with the Celtic Christian movement known as a thing place.
A thin place is when the veil between the Divine and the temporal becomes very thin, so thin that you can smell the incense from Heaven. Mountaintops, delivery rooms, churches, etc.
Our passage today reminds us that we hold a thin place in our hands every time we read scripture. We hold the Word of God, given to God’s church, so that we can taste of what is happening beyond what we can see.
I don’t live every day with that knowledge or that feeling. I live in a world of traffic jams and loan payments and influenza. But when I read God’s Word, I can be free to feel the thin places that are hiding in every moment.
Respond:
Where will I find a thin place today?
Meditation:
Smell the incense.
