The Annunciation of The Lord

March 25

Read Luke 1:26-38

Pray: Almighty God, who came as a child, help me to see the possibilities around me as if I am a child. Remind me that I am in fact a child of God.

Hear:

I grew up in Florida and so I have spent many, many, (far too many) days at Disney World. The shine wore off sometime around the 32nd visit. It was hot, it was crowded, and when I got older I realized— it was way overpriced.

I began to proclaim my own truth— “I hate Disney World.” It always turned heads and it always confused people. I am many things, but at the top of the list of adjectives would be “jovial.” I am a happy go lucky guy and “hating Disney,” is a little bit more punk rock than I appear.

I proudly preached the message that Disney is overrated, all until I went to Disney World with my daughter. It was at that point that I saw the entirety of the park as a miracle on the earth. I started to see Disney World through the eyes of a child and I was transformed. Our passage today shows us that God comes to earth as a child and thereby experiences the world with the eyes of a child.

We must grapple with the truth that if we are to see the world as Christ saw the world, then we must see the world as a child. Filled with magic, filled with possibilities. We must see the world as the beginning of an epic adventure, with nothing but dreams ahead.

Respond:

How will you see the world as a child today?

Meditation:

The world is magic.
