The Light! The Light!

March 21

Read John 1:1-9

Pray: Almighty Light of the world, shine through me

Hear:

If I have been lucky enough to talk about Jesus around you, you have heard me talk about this verse. Geez Lousie do i like this one. It is trippy as heck and real as life all at the same time. This is Jesus’ superhero origin story. This is a summation of creation. This is the triumphant cool-person-walking-away-from-explosion moment of all scripture.

How am I supposed to give just a quick view of this passage? Here is what I will say— there is darkness in this world. At the very root of why Jesus came into the world is the belief that this darkness needs to be driven out. Through the driving out of this darkness, God’s very real presence is made manifest.

That means that if we follow Jesus, we follow a God who is most truly realized in freedom from death. That means if we want to know God then we have our best chance to know God by being drawn to all things that get darkness and death and destruction out of the world. We see the love of Christ manifest in our life whenever darkness fleas. We bring about Christ when we work to end the darkness.

Light triumphs.

Respond:

How will you find and rid the world of darkness?

Meditation:

The darkness will not overcome.
