Read Hebrews 10:32-39

Pray: Almighty God, help me to see my day to day life as a recurring gift, one that we receive every morning. Help me to treat it as a gift from you so that I can push against what is easiest in order to get to what is best. Amen.

Hear:

We are lucky/unlucky enough to live in a community that defaults to Christianity. We have comfort in knowing our kids won’t have to answer hard questions about their faith to people in leadership and we have no fear of persecution.

Where this becomes an unlucky thing is that it becomes exceedingly easy for our faith to turn into white noise. Our day to day life stops being a gift of our faith in Jesus and instead becomes unremarkable compared to the life of a good person.

This passage calls us to remember our counter-cultural roots. It reminds us that our roots are subversive to what is “easy,” and “polite,” and instead is pointed towards the transformation of the world… which shouldn’t be too comfortable. Rejoice in the discomfort!

Respond:

Where does culture get in the way of your faith?

Meditation:

Christ is punk rock.
