Read Hebrews 7: 26-28
Pray: Almighty God, remind me of the High Priest who has given everything that I might be known and seen for who I truly am. Allow me to draw near to you with the confidence of a child of God.
Hear:
This passage teaches us a crucial theological idea—the work of intercession by Jesus. This passage teaches us that we are free from the old paradigm of laws and regulations. Early Christians had fresh in their memory the work of animal sacrifice in order to be in good standing with God.
Though those memories have faded from our collective memories, we are still beating ourselves up, aren’t we? We sometimes go to church or read our bible in response to bad things that we have done. We see these as acts penitence, even though out passage today is trying to convince us that this work is done.
In perfect obedience and completion, Christ has done the work of penitence, all we need to practice is repentance. We acknowledge and walk away from our mistakes, into the arms of a forgiving God.
Respond:
What would forgiveness for yourself look like in your life? What would forgiveness for others look like in your life?
Meditation:
I have been set free.
